Microlocs FAQ

Microlocs are a type of loc that are smaller than traditional locs but larger than Sisterlocks®. They offer a versatile look and can be started with different methods such as interlocking, two-strand twists, comb coils, or braids.

Installation time varies depending on hair length, density, and the method used. It can take anywhere from 8 to 24 hours, sometimes over multiple sessions.

Sisterlocks® are trademarked, require certification to install, and use a specific patented tool and grid pattern. Microlocs are not trademarked, offering more flexibility in size, parting, and installation methods.

Prices vary by location, stylist experience, hair length, and density. Microlocs are generally less expensive than Sisterlocks® but more costly than traditional locs due to the time required for installation. Here at True Glow we having a starting price of $800.

Typically every 4–8 weeks, depending on hair texture, growth rate, and installation method. They can be maintained by interlocking or palm rolling.

Yes! Microlocs can be styled in updos, curls, braids, and more. Their smaller size makes them especially versatile.

Microlocs are considered a long-term style. They can be combed out with patience and care, but the process is time-consuming.

Yes, you can wash Microlocs. In fact, keeping your scalp clean is important for healthy growth. Early on (before full loc maturity), it’s best to braid and band your locs to prevent unraveling.

When installed and maintained properly, Microlocs should not thin or break your hair. Issues usually come from too much tension, improper maintenance, or neglecting retightening schedules.

Microlocs work best on kinky, coily, and tightly curled textures because the hair naturally locks faster. However, with the right technique and patience, they can be started on most hair types.
